A 21-year-old man died Tuesday afternoon at the Queensbridge Houses housing development after a shooting in the early morning darkness Tuesday, police and neighbors said.
Terrence Price, whose address was given as 41-07 Vernon Blvd. in Long Island City, was shot at about 1:45 a.m. Tuesday and died 12 hours later at New York Presbyterian Hospital in Manhattan, said Officer Theresa Farello, a police spokeswoman.
He was walking along the sidewalks of the housing project when he was apparently shot several times by an unidentified person who ran by him, Farello said. Price was shot once in the knee and the abdomen and was initially listed in stable condition, but he died at the hospital of his wounds at 1 p.m., Farello said.
The shooting took place on a dark corner where a light pole had been broken for several months, according to sources at Queensbridge Houses.
Price, one of three brothers, was the third generation in his family to live in Queensbridge, sources said. After the death of his grandmother about a year ago, Price and his family had been evicted from the apartment, but they often visited and stayed with friends at Queensbridge, the sources said.
The Queens District Attorney's Office would not reveal whether Price had a criminal history.
Police were still investigating the incident as of press time.
