College Point hockey players are true Stars

By Sabina Cardali

Welcome to the Point. The Point being College Point.

A wonderful day was spent with the College Point Stars Hockey League. All players must be under 8 to play. Tony Monelussi, president of the league was in attendance. The Ladies Auxiliary: Rose Zaino and Donna arranged for a barbecue and other delectable foods.

This league is not competitive. Tony Monelussi said that a new rink would be ready for 2001.

Richard Rioaldi is a coach for both hockey and baseball. It was nice to see Caroline Sorrentino who was married to Nick Sorrentino, photographer for the Daily News for over 50 years. Referees Jose Esposito, Bill Rennie and Jeff Franetten, Dan Rinaldi and Dan McNena. Rick King has been coaching for over 25 years. The best season was with the Dwarf-Giraffe when they were champs twice out of four times. There were five divisions in the Tom Montgomery Tournament; the team made finals in four, and they won two championships. In the winter there are 300 children and in the spring, 200 children. Linda Virgilio (who has the holiday displays on Francis Lewis Boulevard and 19th Avenue) will be holding hockey raffles over the holidays. The drawing will be at the end of the season.

Bishop Edward Egan, a canon lawyer, classical pianist and cellist, and one-time aide to John Cardinal O'Connor, has now taken the reins as city's ninth archbishop of New York, following his installation at St. Patrick's Cathedral where 3,000 invited guests, church leaders, and elected officials attended. He will then travel to Rome this month for another ceremony. The pope will present Bishop Egan with a pallium (a stole of lamb's wool) that signifies the unity of Archbishops with the Holy See.

This folder was concise and easy to understand. Several hundred were also sent to many colleges.

Congratulations to the College Point Security Patrol, as they celebrate their ninth anniversary.

Community Board 7 had an end of the season dinner at the Capriccio Restaurant in Bayside. The only complaint is that they had too much good food!
