The American Martyrs Rookie boys basketball team won the CYO Flushing West ‘A’ Division title, posting an impressive 13-1 regular season record. Throughout the season, the team played an up-tempo brand of basketball, combining a balanced scoring attack, solid defense and an overall team concept.

The team’s leading scorers are Guy Ferraro, Greg Szempruch, Brian McCarthy and Chris Head, each contributing multi double-digit games during the season. Also contributing to the offense as well as playing excellent defense are Mike Bean, Dine Dacic, Laurent Richard and Robert Goldstein. Each one of the boys contributed to the overall success of the team.

The American Martyrs Rookie boys wrapped up the 2000-01 regular season this past Sunday with an impressive 58-37 victory over a solid St. Gregory’s team. The American Martyrs team played a great game, combining solid defense, excellent rebounding and pinpoint passing with an overall strong offensive effort. The seventh-grade boys are preparing for the CYO playoffs, which are scheduled to start this weekend.
