The “luck o’ the Irish” smiled on Our Lady of Snows fifth-grade volleyball team, as it continued on a roll, besting St. Thomas More in Breezy Point, winning two of three games on St. Patrick’s Day.
OLS played a strong first game, winning 15-10. Diana Lutzak led the scoring with seven points, followed by Ashley Frangella with three points. Emily Pennachio and Kristina Mosquito added two points each, with one point served by Erica Della Jacono.
OLS dropped the second game, 15-8, despite Stefanie Posa leading off the scoring with two points, followed by Tina Khiani, who served six consecutive points, a personal best.
In an exciting third game, momentum swung back to OLS, which won 15-5. Emily Pennachio held the serve for eight straight points, Diana Lutzak chipped in three more points and Ashley Frangella added another two points. Lyana Labrada and Rebecca Spitz tallied one point each.
Back home on Sunday, OLS won all three games against St. Joe’s by scores of 15-6, 15-1 and 15-2. High scorers were Stefanie Posa with eight points, Diana Lutzak and Emily Pennachio with seven points each and Erin Dolan with five points. Erica Della Jacono and Kristina Mosquito added four points each. Tina Khiani, Lyana Labrada, Rebecca Spitz all served three additional points each and Ashley Frangella added one more.
Melissa Lyons and Danielle Petrone completed the team’s defense. With only one more game before the playoffs, OLS is looking good.
