Giants Post 104 vs. GCOP Astros. It was beautiful summer night as the Giants took the field to take on the GCOP Astros in a 6 p.m. game. The Giants were equal to the task, as they come to bat making every turn a quality appearance at the plate. The Orange and Black also looked outstanding on the defensive side, playinggood team defense, as they scampered after every ground and fly ball.
Turning an unassisted double play on a fly ball was Chris Piteo. Piteo also went 4-for-4 with a double to the fence in center field. This was the third game in a row in which Piteo had doubled. Also joining in on the hit pared was Ryan DiBiase, who went 3-for-3, and team captain Timothy Franzel, who was 3-for-4.
Franzel was joined by the rest of his teammates, who banged the cover off the ball. Mark Otero (3-for-3), Johnny Postel (3-for-3), Patrick Ennd (2-for3), Dave Fitzgerald (2-for-3), Mike Borgia (2-for-3), Samantha DiGiovanni (2-for-3), Stevie Seigal (2-for-3) and Bryan Torres (2-for-3.
Special game balls went to Ryan DeBiase (3-for-3). adding super defense on the field. and Piteo, who went 4-for-4, including one double, and on the defensive side turned an unassisted double play.
Manager Al Erdmann gave to each player the official RGMVM Little League 50th Anniversary Game Ball as well the 2001 Giant team pictures.
Giants Post 104 vs. First Response Red Sox. Hats off to the real diehard ball players from the Giants, as the “Magnificent Seven” (Timmy Franzel (4-for-5), Joey Rubino (4-for-5), Chris Piteo (4-for-5), David Fitzgerald (4-for-4), Timmy Belington (4-for-4) and Mike Belington (3-for-4) and Stevie Siegel (3-for-4) took the field in a Saturday 2 p.m. start.
There was the threat of rain and there was some thunder that crackled off in the distance, but these kids came to play. The Big Three in the infield Franzel, Rubino and Piteo played stellar defense. Rubino played the shortstop position, Franzel played second and Piteo was at first base. Both Rubino and Franzel scooped up everything that came there way and then made the throws to Piteo, who made some great stops and catches to complete the play.
Also joining in on the team defense were Timmy and Mike Belington, as both made some great stops and some nice put outs. In the outfield, Siegel and Fitzgerald made some nice stops and throw ins. All in all, manager Al Erdmann was very proud of his team and the fine effort that they put out.
This was the last regular scheduled game of the 2001 season. On the flip side, as is the RGMVM Instructional tradition, two additional games have been added to the schedule. The first one is slated for July 3, at 6 p.m. and the second one is July 8. Erdmann also gave out the traditional Giant miniature baseball bat key chains and this year’s 50th Anniversary Trophies.
Special thanks goes out to Erdmann and his truck and bag filled with trinkets and goodies. All ball players that are turning 8 years old are reminded that they must come down to register and tryout on Sept. 8. Congratulations to the Giants on a fine season.
