A squadron of heavily armed police officers descended on a Park Slope home Monday night to apprehend a jilted National Guard reservist allegedly holding his wife and two daughters at gunpoint. After a very brief standoff, George Lamboy, a resident of the 250 block of 12th Street between 4th and 5th avenues, was taken into custody at 10 p.m. on January 16, charged with criminal possession of a weapon and assault. Police allege that Lamboy, a First Sergeant in the U.S. Army National Guard, was on furlough from Operation Iraqi Freedom when he discovered that his wife had been cheating on him. On the night of his arrest, sources allege that Lamboy confronted his wife and her 21-year-old lover, cracking the much younger suitor in the head with the butt of his gun. His victim ran off and told police that Lamboy was armed and dangerous. Not willing to take any chances, area cops, hearing the 21-year-old’s story, called the NYPD Emergency Services Unit to intervene. Residents were stunned as police showed up en-masse, surrounding the home and preparing for an all-out battle. “When we show up on a scene like this, we want to make sure that we have the upper hand,” said one cop. Lamboy, police said, did not give the army of officers any reason to take action and surrendered peacefully. His wife and two children were not harmed, officials said. “It was a very brief encounter,” said one officer close to the scene. “The whole thing was over in 40 minutes.” Cops checking out the scene found no other weapons in the residence other than the .25 caliber pistol he allegedly had on him. Speaking on the condition of anonymity, stunned neighbors on 12th Street said Lamboy is known for keeping a small fleet of motorcycles in his front yard. Sources said that Lamboy’s wife and the 21-year-old met in the National Guard, where she, too, is a sergeant. Her alleged lover is a private, officials said.
