In 1961 Mazzei opened his first salon, Ultissima, in Queens. Over a ten-year period Mazzei built a salon empire throughout the New York Metropolitan area that included 14 salons and the Ultissima Beauty Institute.
In 1973 Mazzei decided to open Nubest Salon and Spa and today this 20,000 sq. ft. space houses the world’s premiere lifestyle salon and spa employing over 100 of the best beauty professionals in the world.
Mazzei is constantly refining and perfecting the salon and has recently completed a two million dollar renovation. Salon owners all over the world use Nubest Salon and Spa as a model for their own businesses.
In 1990 Mazzei joined forces with longtime collaborator Leland Hirsch and the two revolutionized the professional hair care industry with the creation of ARTEC Systems. Mazzei and Hirsch strove to make their products the very best so that hair stylists would do better for their clients and better for themselves. Their innovative marketing strategies and cutting edge technology set them apart from their competition. For these reasons ARTEC Systems was the fastest-growing company in the professional beauty industry.
Prior to the sale of ARTEC to L’Oreal, Johnson & Johnson, Bristol-Myers, and Estee Lauder pursued Hirsch and Mazzei. Due to the overwhelming popularity and premium market position of ARTEC brands in virtually every aspect of professional hair care products ARTEC was sold for one of the highest multiples of gross sales of any professional beauty company to date.
