Mary O’Leary Kerler of Garden City passed away on May 8 at age 89. She had been disabled by a stroke in 2001.
Kerler grew up in Jackson Heights and graduated from The College of Mount St. Vincent in Riverdale in 1939. She worked for the Standard Oil Company for over a decade, married in 1948, and settled in Forest Hills with her husband, Bob. They moved to Garden City in 1966, where Mary taught catechism and was active with the Rosary Society of St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church.
Loving husband Bob passed away in 1985. Mary is survived by her son, Bob Jr., a copy editor at The Queens Courier; daughter Carol, a marketing specialist at TIAA-CREF in Manhattan; and brother Vincent O’Leary and family of Stony Brook. Funeral arrangements were handled by Fairchild Sons of Garden City. A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated at St. Joseph’s R.C. Church and interment was at Holy Rood Cemetery in Westbury.
