Krysta Hankee was a bright 22-year-old from central Pennsylvania, who came to New York to find her fortune. In late September, the aspiring agent at a Whitestone Real Estate firm died after a freak accident, resulting from her suffering an epileptic seizure.
Bayside’s charitable dynamo, Jennifer Buljan, heard that friends and family had started a scholarship fund named for her co-worker and pal and decided to do something.
The 25-year-old Buljan, who recently raised more than $3,000 to fight hunger in America by having a bake sale in the Bayside High schoolyard, organized a fundraiser at Bourbon Street on Bell Boulevard, which was held on Saturday, November 18.
Checks are still coming in, but thanks to contributions from local residents and businesses along with friends of the family who traveled here, the luncheon and raffles raised over $5,000, Buljan said.
