Sabini announces expanded No. 7 train service

JACKSON HEIGHTS — Rider input from transit forums in April has produced an increase in weekend service on the No. 7 line, state Sen. John Sabini (D-Jackson Heights) announced last month.

More trains will run between 11 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. and 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. on Saturdays and between 6 a.m. to 10 a.m. and 8 p.m. to 1 a.m. on Sundays, Sabini said.

Wait times will decrease by an average of 2 minutes to 3 minutes between each train during these periods.

“It's high time that weekend riders were given the same quality of service that weekday riders receive,” Sabini said. “They pay the same fare, and they should get the same service.”

The 7 train is the main subway line for much of northern Queens. It carries roughly 400,000 riders a day.
