Park employees awarded

The seventh annual Best of Parks was recently celebrated with a special lunch held for the honorees.
The awards are handed to employees from the city’s Park Department for their outstanding work in maintaining and improving all parks located in the five boroughs.
Commissioner Adrian Benepe, who took part of the lunch, congratulated this year’s winners.
“New York City’s parks have never been so plentiful, green and clean. Much of it is thanks to the hardworking Parks Department employees who personally invest themselves in caring for the city’s green spaces. I am proud to celebrate them each year at the Best of Parks Awards,” Benepe said.
Bernard Robinson, the Sorrentino Recreation Center manager, received the Mary Purcell Public Service Award, which is given to a long-serving employee who displays a strong sense of devotion, caring and dedication to the Park’s Department.
Among the other awards handed out was the “Going the Extra Mile” (GEM) Award, given to six Queens Parks employees for exhibiting great customer service.
The borough’s Urban Park Service was also recognized for apprehending a man who assaulted a child on Rockaway Beach.
Park employees also received awards like “Greenest District” and “Most Improved District.” Over the last 15 years, more than 2,600 park employees have been recognized through over 170 award ceremonies, including Employee of the Month and Best of Park awards.
