Police search for scam perpetrator

BAYSIDE — Police said a 205th Street resident was nearly the victim of a bizarre telephone scam Friday afternoon.

Police said a resident of the 40th Avenue block of 205th Street received a phone call between 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. Friday from a man claiming to be his son. The man asked the Bayside resident to wire him $5,000 in San Diego, to which the resident declined, contending that his son was not in need of money.

No arrests had been made as of press time, police said.
