Bharrat Gupersaud, 45, has been arraigned and released on his own reconnaissance after he was arrested for allegedly stealing his landlord’s mail and opening a credit card account in his name.
According to the district attorney, Gupersaud, of South Ozone Park, is charged with grand larceny in the third degree, forgery in the second degree, identity theft in the first degree and petit larceny.
The landlord claims that Gupersaud took a letter from Chase Bank from his mailbox and activated a business account, allegedly to pay the rent for his Brooklyn-based business.
The DA?said that a Chase Business Fraud Application informed him that Gupersaud charged a total of $18,272.93, without the bank’s — or the landlord’s — coonsent.
Gupersaud also told the DA?that he also received two balance transfer checks in the mail for the account, that he made two balance transfers into a separate account, and that he forged the victim’s name on the transactions.
