The directors, staff and volunteers of the Alley Pond Environmental Center (APEC) decided that simply touching lives by educating children wasn’t enough – so they decided to give the gift of life by inaugurating the Marilyn McGlinchey Memorial Blood Drive.
McGlinchey’s children Liz and Andrew have been longtime workers at APEC, and on Tuesday, October 6, a total of 46 pints were donated at the center, located at 228-06 Northern Boulevard in Douglaston.
Shown here, Floral Park resident Amy Reid, a nurse at Schneider Children’s Hospital in New Hyde Park, does her part. Almost any healthy person from 16 to 76 who weighs more than 110 pounds can give.
Donating is safe and painless; everyone will be in tip-top shape for APEC’s big Square Dance, on Saturday, October 17 at 6 p.m.; call 718-229-4000 or visit www.alleypond.com for details.
