Vallone wins four more years

Peter F. Vallone, Jr., came out ahead of Green Party candidate Lynne Serpe and Populist candidate Gerald Kann to win a third term as the District 22 City Councilmember.

“I’m just so honored and privileged to have received the trust of the voters of the 22nd District for four more years,” Vallone said. “It means that I’m going to continue to work to keep our streets safe, make our environment cleaner and improve our schools. I can’t wait.”

Vallone received 75 percent of the vote with 100 percent of the precincts reporting, while Serpe received 23 percent and Kann 2 percent.

“The neighborhood really came out yesterday, and I was so proud of them. I think their message was that Astoria is heading in the right direction, and they want to keep it going that way,” Vallone said the morning after the election. “I want to thank them from the bottom of my heart for their support, and I’ll work hard to justify their trust.”

Vallone is another Councilmember who would have originally been forced to leave office because of term limits but was able to run again when the City Council and Mayor voted to extend them.

As the Councilmember in District 22, Vallone represents Astoria, Long Island City and parts of Jackson Heights. He is also the chair of the Council’s Public Safety Committee.

Vallone said that one of the issues that he will be addressing during his third term is the need for more police officers in the 114th Precinct. He also said that he will move forward with addressing zoning in the area, saying that they need to make sure any new developments stay in character with the existing neighborhood.

Another plan Vallone has will address the concern of young children in his area, who spoke to him about people yelling at them for skateboarding in a public park. Vallone said he will be breaking ground on a new skate park in Astoria Park.

Vallone said he will keep working on what he has been focused on for the last eight years.
