Celebrate Black History Month at QCC

In honor of Black History Month, Queensborough Community College (QCC) will be commemorating significant African-Americans throughout history with a variety of artistic and historical events open to the college community and public at no charge.

A Series of Documentaries on African-American Artists

Throughout the month of February, on Wednesdays from 1 to 3 p.m., and Thursdays at 5:30 p.m., the QCC Art Gallery will present a series of documentary films about African-American artists.

February 3 and 4: Jean-Michel Basquiat, 1970’s graffiti artist

February 10 and 11: Benny Andrews, self-styled innovator of collages, paintings and drawings

February 17 and 18: Aaron Douglas, a painter and major figure in the Harlem Renaissance art movement

February 24 and 25: Kara Walker, whose work depicts American life in the south before the Civil War

The Predictability of Genocide: The Case of Rwanda

The Kupferberg Holocaust Resource Center will show a video based on a recent event highlighting Dr. Cynthia Kamikazi, Human Rights Officer at the Permanent Mission of Rwanda to the United Nations. A QCC student panel discussion on Rwanda will follow.

Wednesday, February 17, from 1 to 3 p.m.
