Rabbi Tzvi Berkowitz, spiritual leader of the Rockwood Park Jewish Center in Howard Beach, led the community and members in commemorating Yom Hashoah, Holocaust Remembrance Day, on Sunday, April 11. The program featured guest speaker Ed Weinstein, a survivor of Treblinka Concentration Camp. An NYPD honor guard escorted the Holocaust survivors during the ceremony and guests included Senator Joseph Addabbo, Assemblymember Audrey Pheffer and Congressmember Anthony Weiner. Yom Hashoah, Holocaust Remembrance Day, is a day that Jews all over the world remember the six million Jews who died in the Holocaust of World War II. The commemoration also honors the survivors, most of them elderly, whose numbers decrease every year.
