New name, more signature dishes

Since UNO Chicago Grill got its new name, the menu has been expanded, but they’ve been faithful to their origins. They have created new, mouth-watering deep dish and thin crust pizzas to add to their versatile menu, that also offers certified Angus beef aged steak burgers, sliders, seafood, pasta, all-you-can-eat soup during the week and of course, enticing desserts. In their Bayside location, there is a handsome large bar where you can eat and have one of the Uno "brewmaster’s selections" from Samuel Adams. There is an extensive beer menu featuring on tap and bottled beers and well-priced wines by the glass or bottle

The warm woods on the walls and tables create an inviting atmosphere to eat a fast burger or pizza or enjoy a family feast.

Since we were having a management meeting, we made it into a luncheon meeting. As a group of 10 we had a chance to sample a lot of the restaurant’s signature dishes.

We started with appetizers including their five grain thin crust pizza topped with Wowza chicken, which is peppered chicken, onions, bell peppers, spicy banana peppers, cheddar, mozzarella cheeses and Uno’s Wowza sauce. To add to the special flavors and textures is a splash of Samuel Adams Boston Lager. It’s a unique blend that made us all say “WOW.”

Another tasty combo is the pizza with roasted eggplant, spinach and feta delivered on a thin crust. Not to be outdone, there is a deep dish baked pizza with a buttery, flaky crust. Their top seller in that category is their Numero Uno, with the "works.” It has sausage, pepperoni, onions, peppers, mushrooms, a tasty chunky tomato sauce all topped with rich mozzarella and grated Romano cheese – outrageous! There is even a calorie count on the menu that I bravely ignored and took bite after delicious bite. Oh, I’ll worry about it tomorrow.

We had a crunchy salad that is also available on their special Ten-N-Ten lunch menu that offers 10 lunch specials in 10 minutes. We tried fish ‘n chips, which is their fried Icelandic haddock served with fries and red pepper tartar sauce. One of my favorite dishes was the flat bread sandwich served with turkey breast surrounded by sun-dried tomatoes, banana peppers, feta, mozzarella and basil pesto. Delicious!

I sampled the sliders, served on plump rolls. My favorite was the lobster slider. It was chock full of lobster with mayo and shredded lettuce. We also liked the burger sliders topped with melted, spicy buffalo cheddar – oh so mouth watering.

To keep the tradition of deep dish going, there is a grand finale of a deep dish sundae served with vanilla ice cream, chocolate sauce and whipped cream atop a giant chocolate chip cookie baked in a deep dish pan. Don’t ask the calorie count, which is there if you dare or care to look. It’s worth every calorie. Try it, you’ll love it.
