Quantcast

Assmbly District 35

Name: Anthony Miranda

Age: 49

Party Affiliation: Democrat

Occupation: Retired NYC Police Sergeant

Decision To Run: I have decided to run because I have seen services and resources for my community be cut and more and more people suffering to just try to live, and our elected officials are not doing anything and are silent.

Two Major Issues: There are many issues facing the constituents of East Elmhurst, Elmhurst, Corona, LeFrak City and Rego Park the first being jobs. I will partner with business leaders to ensure that living wage jobs are created and stay in our community.

Second, I am as strong fighter for our community. I have mentored youth and educated families about their rights. I will promote protection of rights for all, equal access to education, housing , and social services. I will also advocate stopping cuts to health care, education and those most in need of help.

Top Priorities: I plan on being a full-time Assemblymember representing only the community’s interest. First, I will be a strong progressive leader and work to restore honesty, integrity and real meaningful leadership to Albany and my constituents of the 35th Assembly District.

Name: Jeffrion Aubry

Age: 62

Party Affiliation: Democrat

Occupation: Assemblymember, 35th AD

Decision To Run: There is a lot more that I want to do and complete. I have spent over two decades working in public life, and most of that time working on behalf of the community where I was raised; East Elmhurst/northeast Queens. With the changes happening in Albany, I look forward to working again in the capital to implement positive reforms on behalf of the residents of the 35th district.

Major Issues: Two primary issues that people stop me on the street or come to my district office to discuss are jobs/unemployment and affordable/senior housing.

Top Priorities: Recently, I introduced legislation that requires cardiac screening of student athletes and mandates that coaches receive CPR and Automatic External Defibrillator (AED) training. The legislation was inspired by Dominic Murray, the 17-year-old high school basketball star who died of sudden cardiac arrest while playing a pick-up game in Farmingdale’s Nold Hall last October. The bill is meant to ensure that students are properly screened and cleared before participating in strenuous athletic activity. The legislation also requires that school officials and coaches are prepared should the need for immediate care arise.
