The Bowlers to Veterans Link (BVL) is a nationwide charity that raises about $1 million each year for active service people and veterans.
To commemorate Veterans Day, on November 11, BVL members, including Maple Family Centers president and vice president John and Joe LaSpina, traveled to Washington, D.C. They enjoyed breakfast at the White House before presenting a wreath to the Marine Guard at the Tomb on the Unknowns at Arlington Cemetery.
For first time attendee Joe LaSpina, it was an unforgettable and moving experience. “Although Maple Family Centers has been a long-time supporter of BVL, we decided to really step it up last year,” explained LaSpina. “We recognized all the good that BVL does and our important role in supporting bowling’s own charity. But standing in front of the Tomb of the Unknowns with the BVL wreath, surrounded by other VSOs, truly illustrated to me the larger BVL role and how essential the organization is to our veterans.”
Maple Family Centers operates Jib Lanes in Queens. Joe LaSpina explained that last year, they raised $25,000 for BVL “through little donations from a lot of bowlers” and through various tournaments and fundraising events.
