Drunk driver pleads guilty in man’s death: DA

LONG ISLAND CITY — A Long Island City man who pleaded guilty in January to crashing his car while intoxicated, killing a food deliveryman, was sentenced to 3 1/2 to 10 years in prison, the Queens district attorney announced Tuesday.

Richard Contreras, 29, of 32-18 Greenpoint Ave., struck Jianqui Chen, 52, at the intersection of 39th Place and the Queens Midtown Expressway Feb. 12, the DA said. Chen was driving a scooter and later died as a result of the crash, the DA said.

Contreras had a blood alcohol content reading of .195 percent — more than twice the legal limit — when he was later apprehended after fleeing the scene, the DA said.
