Picnic kicks off 4th annual Fathers Week

The Fathers and Children Picnic at Roy Wilkins Park that was co-hosted by Assemblymember William Scarborough, honorary chair of the Million Fathers Club was the kick-off for the Real Dads Network 4th Annual Celebration of Father’s Week.
This is a city-wide week-long event to celebrate the important role that fathers play in the healthy development of children, family and community. Scarborough has recognized Real Dads Network’s efforts on behalf of increasing fathers’ involvement in their children’s lives with a New York State Legislature Proclamation.
Over 200 fathers enjoyed the festivities in the park, with face painting and arts and crafts by the NYC Department of Parks and Recreation, food catered by Triple S Catering, freshly made cotton candy, donuts and moon bounce inflatable supplied by Forrestdale Fathering Initiative, entertainment by local talent, basketball by NY Triple SSS All-Stars Basketball Team and music by DJ DiggA from The DiggA and Juice Experiment on SUR-U-RIGHT Radio.
Some of the organization helping make this large event a success included: The Forrestdale Fathering Initiative; Andrene Williams of Lady Doves Self Enrichment Organization; Alisha Johnson of Talent Youth Development (YTDE); Keith Honeywell, one of the founding fathers of Real Dads Network and assistant director of The Children’s Aid Society; Occasions Catering Hall and Derrick Phillips, founder and executive director of Real Dads Network, Cub Scout Pack 263 and St. James Lodge No. 1 volunteered at the picnic.
