Sunnyside streets come alive

“Sunnyside Summer Streets” is back this year with a full list of jazz-inspired events to liven up those hot August nights.
The Sunnyside Shines Business Improvement District (BID) transforms 46th Street between Queens Boulevard and Greenpoint Avenue into a pedestrian mall for outdoor events and performances.
This year, the BID is hosting events and jazz performances every Saturday this August, and kicked off with a three-day event from August 5 to 7 with cinema screenings, concerts featuring The New Sunnyside Wolverine Orchestra, The Brandee Younger Band, The Sunnyside Drum Corporation and the David Shenton Band and a Sunday brunch.
For the subsequent weekends, the summer series will host from 4 to 6 p.m. on August 13, The Little Brass Band who specializes in Dixieland, big band sounds and jazz.
On August 20 from 1 to 4 p.m., the space turns into a magic show for the area’s kids to come out and enjoy. And the sounds of Frank Pedulla and The Music Staff Swing Orchestra follow from 4 to 6 p.m.
The last weekend of the month ends with a concert featuring The Jon Bates Band from 1 to 5 p.m. on August 27.
