Father Previously Cuffed For Crime
The son of a man arrested in April 2011 for a March knifepoint assault near a Maspeth deli was cuffed last Friday, Jan. 27 and charged with participating in the crime.
According to information provided by the Queens District Attorney’s Office 20-year-old Juan Alvarado, of Jefferson Avenue in Bedford-Stuyvesant and 41-year-old Juan Mieles of 135th Street in Jamaica- a man identified as Alvarado’s father-both displayed knives from their jacket pockets outside of a deli on 55th Street and Nurge Avenue in Maspeth at about 8:30 p.m. on Mar. 13, 2011 and proceeded to attack a patron for reasons unknown.
Reportedly, Alvarado slashed the back of his victim’s neck with the knife while his accomplice punched and slashed the victim in the face.
Alvarado reportedly fled the scene on foot while Mieles fled in an Audi, law enforcement sources claimed.
The victim reportedly suffered lacerations to the left side of his face and to his back, receiving approximately 40 stitches in total.
Mieles was arrested for the incident on Apr. 4, 2011 and previously charged with assault with intent to cause physical injury with a weapon; court records indicate that two charges of criminal possession of a weapon have been added. His next court date is on Mar. 21.
Alvarado was charged with assault with intent to cause physical injury with a weapon. He was arraigned on Jan. 28 and did not post bail. His next court date is Feb. 16.
