Members of the South Asian Youth Action (SAYA) group were recognized by City Council Member Daniel Dromm for organizing a cleanup of the 37th Road Pedestrian Plaza in Jackson Heights on May 12. Dromm expressed pride in the group for giving back to the community by sprucing up one of the neighborhood’s newest open spaces. SAYA is considered to be the nation’s only secular youth development group dedicated to young South Asian residents. Since its inception in 1996, SAYA has provided youth development and after-school programs to nearly 7,700 individuals across the city.
