John Messer

John Messer is an Oakland Gardens businessman and lawyer who has also worked as a project manager at the city Economic Development Corp. He draws on his experience running multiple companies as to why he has a pulse on the state’s economic climate. Messer’s main message is to bolster the state economy by making it easier to run a small business through tax reform and simplifying regulation. He also is a supporter of immigration reform to include more people in the state’s economy.

Toby Stavisky

State Sen. Toby Stavisky was first elected to the state Senate in 1999 and is currently the ranking minority member on the Higher Education Committee. She touts her long career as a legislator and success in helping pass initiatives including the Power for Jobs Act as to why she would perform well in Albany. Stavisky is also an ardent supporter of New York State’s DREAM Act, which would make tuition funds available to undocumented immigrants, and is endorsed by a broad coalition of leaders in the borough.
