Jamaica went country at this year’s annual Harvest Festival hosted by the Greater Jamaica Development Corporation and community markets.

Hundreds gathered Saturday on 160th Street under the bright sun to celebrate autumn, and indulge in baked goods, shop for fresh produce, support local merchants and watch live music and performances.

There were cook-offs, cooking demos, free food samplings, face painting for children and arts and crafts, all packed into a fun-filled fall afternoon just off of Jamaica Ave. Children enjoyed making scarecrows, guessing the weight of a hefty pumpkin and watching live cowboys and clowns perform.

“Do you know how we do it in the West?” asked a cowboy, towards a crowd of children as he spun his whip around. The kids yelled back, and laughed as the whip cracked.

The community markets took the opportunity to promote its businesses and advocate healthy, fun living.
