Killed By Motorcycle On The Belt
Trying to run across the Belt Parkway proved to be a deadly decision for a Manhattan woman who was fatally hit by a motorcycle last Tuesday morning, Mar. 26, police reported.
She was identified by NYPD sources as Yvonne Blanding, 67, of Ninth Avenue.
Law enforcement sources said the incident took place at around 11:54 a.m. last Tuesday along the westbound lanes of the Belt Parkway near the North Conduit Avenue exit .
Based on details obtained by police, it was determined that Blanding attempted to cross the westbound lanes of the parkway when she was hit by a motorcycle operated by a man in his 40s.
Reportedly, the impact caused the motorcyclist to lose control of his ride and crash.
Officers from the 106th Precinct, NYPD Highway Patrol and EMS units responded to the scene. Paramedics pronounced Blanding dead at the location upon examination.
The motorcyclist was taken to Jamaica Hospital Medical Center with serious, but not life-threatening injuries.
Law enforcement sources stated last Friday, Mar. 29, that the motorcyclist was issued summonses for operating a motorcycle without a license, proper registration or insurance.
An investigation by the NYPD Accident Investigation Squad is ongoing, police said.
