Ridgewood Youth Gives Gift of Sight

Colin Byrne, a fourth-grader at St. Matthias School in Ridgewood, collected hundreds of pairs of eyeglasses last year to help give clearer vision to those less fortunate overseas. With the assistance of relatives, parishioners and schoolmates, Byrne collected 425 pairs donated to New Eyes for the Needy in Short Hills, N.J. The spectacles will be donated to poor residents in nations such as Haiti, Ghana, Indonesia and Senegal. He has already collected 1,231 glasses for distribution and is preparing yet another eyeglass drive.
