Detectives continue to search for the man who tried to sexually assault a mother and attacked her two young children near an Elmhurst homeless shelter early on Sunday morning, Aug. 24, it was reported.

Police released on Wednesday morning, Aug. 27, a sketch (at right) of the suspect, who is described as a Hispanic male in his 40s who spoke Spanish and had trimmed eyebrows and an earring in his right ear. He was last observed wearing a dark blue sweatshirt with white stripes.

Reportedly, the attack occurred at about 2:45 a.m. Sunday morning in the rear of 79-00 Queens Blvd., the former Pan American Hotel which was recently converted into an emergency homeless shelter.

According to police, the perpetrator-who claimed to be a cab driver-picked up the 26-year-old victim and her three young children, ages 1, 3 and 5, earlier that morning from a location on 207th Street in Manhattan.

Law enforcement sources said the victim asked him to take her to Queens.

Shortly after pulling up to the former hotel and with the three children still in the vehicle, authorities stated, the perpetrator attempted to sexually assault the woman.

As the young mother attempted to get out of the vehicle, police noted, the suspect elbowed the 5- year-old child in the head, then forcibly removed the 3-year-old from the car.

With the victim and her children out of the car, law enforcement sources noted, the suspect drove away.

Members of the 110th Precinct and EMS units responded to the scene. The children were treated at Elmhurst Hospital Center for minor injuries.
