A 61-year-old man died after being struck by a vehicle in Auburndale Wednesday night, the NYPD said.
The man, whose identity was not released pending family notification, was crossing 46th Avenue near Utopia Parkway at 11:39 p.m. when an unknown vehicle struck him while he was in the middle of the block, according to the police. The driver fled the scene, police said.
The man was found lying unconscious and unresponsive on the roadway with severe head trauma, according to the NYPD’s Highway District’s Collision Investigation Squad. He was taken to Flushing Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The investigation was ongoing, according to a police spokeswoman.
