The Beach 41st Cornerstone Community Center is hosting a job fair in Far Rockaway next week.
The Teen Job Fair & Career Expo, which will take place April 17 from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the community center at 426 Beach 40th St. in Far Rockaway, targets youth ages 14 to 24.
The fair will consist of free workshops on subjects such as how to write a résumé, how to dress professionally and interviewing skills. Computers will be available for job seekers to apply online.
Individuals will also have the opportunity to speak with representatives from various companies currently looking to hire.
Manny Fiallo, program coordinator for the Child Center of New York, who is also a board member of the 101st Precinct Community Council in Far Rockaway, started the job fair three years ago to target Rockaway teens and teens throughout the five boroughs.
He is expecting roughly 200 people to participate in the fair.
“I wanted them to have something for the teens they can claim for themselves,” Fiallo said.
There will be 50 vendors this year, including the Fire Department, Police Department, John F. Kennedy Airport, Costco, Applebee’s, Lowe’s, McDonald’s, Workforce One Career Center, Police Athletic League, the City College of New York, and Game Stop. The Rockaway Development & Revitalization Corporation will be registering individuals for the summer youth employment lab in the computer lab as well.
State Sen. James Sanders (D-South Ozone Park), who is co-sponsoring the fair, helped secure employers.
“We have many talented, educated and motivated young people living in this community, who just need some extra tools and opportunities to help them achieve success,” Sanders said in a statement.
