“Second Avenue Sinatra” found dead: Police

By Sadef Ali Kully

A Howard Beach ironworker, known as “The Second Avenue Sinatra,” who disappeared last month was found hanging from a tree in Spring Creek Park, off Crossbay Boulevard in Howard Beach, police said.

Garry Russo, 54, who sang Frank Sinatra karaoke songs while working as an ironworker on the Second Avenue subway line, was reported missing Aug 3, police said.

Police said Russo disappeared July 28 around midnight, according to his family.

In YouTube videos, Russo is seen serenading city dwellers during his lunch breaks crooning to listeners, “Follow your dreams, follow your heart.”

Responding to a call from a resident, police discovered Russo Friday around 2 p.m., according to officials.

Officers said they discovered Russo, unconscious and unresponsive, with a rope around his neck hanging from a tree near 165th Avenue and 92nd Street.

Emergency Medical Services pronounced Russo dead at the scene.

Police suspect suicide, but the city medical examiner is still conducting an investigation.
