An Arverne man was sentenced to serve 15 years in prison Monday after being convicted of possessing 10 ounces of cocaine that was to be sold, according to Queens District Attorney Richard A. Brown.
Christopher Brown, 26, was found guilty in October of first- and third- degree criminal possession of a controlled substance.
According to trial testimony, a police officer saw Brown throwing a black plastic bag into the lobby of a residence on 185th Street. Officials later discovered the bag contained five plastic bags of cocaine with a total of more than 10 ounces.
When police caught Brown, prosecutors noted, they also found $2,120 cash in his pants.
“The defendant’s arrest, conviction and now sentencing represents a clear demonstration of my office’s commitment to rid our county of illegal narcotics trafficking and to improve the quality of life of our Queens residents,” Brown said in a statement.
