Miss Guniea USA Pageant postponed

By Gabriel Rom

The Eighth Annual Miss Guinea USA Pageant scheduled for Saturday, March 19, has been postponed.

The pageant, which was supposed to take place at the African Performing Arts Culture Center at 240 East 123rd St. in Harlem, provides eight young Guinean girls with the opportunity to showcase their talents, promote themselves and celebrate their culture.

“We were informed within the last 24 hours that the Board of Education has ordered that no events be held at the location until the end of the month due to structural safety reasons stemming from current renovations in the building,” the organization said. “Due to the short timeframe, we were, unfortunately, unable to locate an alternative venue.”

The organization said it would announce the new date and venue as soon as possible. All individuals who bought their tickets in advance online have received a full refund.

The pageant is one of two initiatives under Giving Back For Tomorrow, a nonprofit organization that seeks to help orphans and permanently displaced children in Conakry, Guinea, find safe shelter, enroll in school and change their lives for the better.
