To celebrate five years in New York City today, the car-hailing app Uber is charging only $5 for anyone traveling within Queens using uberPOOL.

Uber is also partnering with three Queens pizzerias to give away free pizza from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. to anyone who flashes his or her Uber app at the door. The participating eateries include Rizzo’s Fine Pizza in Astoria, located at 30-13 Steinway St., Artichoke Basille’s Pizza in Astoria, located at 22-56 31st St. and Lillian Pizzeria in Forest Hills, located at 96-01 69th Ave.

Ray Romano gave Lillian Pizzeria a stamp of approval and said it was his go-to pizza place when he was growing up in Forest Hills.

Using uberPOOL, riders share a ride and split the cost of a trip with another Uber rider headed in the same direction.

The company has been celebrating its fifth birthday all week and providing this promotion to other boroughs across the city. It recently announced that the price of uberX rides, one of the cheaper options the service offers, would be cut by 15 percent.

Drivers protested the cuts by holding a rally in Long Island City in February, arguing that the cuts were unfair and exploitative.
