In Queens, you are free to be who you want to be.
That spirit powered the 25th Queens Pride Parade celebrated in Jackson Heights on June 4. Organized by the Queens Lesbian & Gay Pride Committee, the colorful march paid homage to the entire LGBT community.
There were special tributes at this year’s festivities to City Councilman Daniel Dromm, the city’s first openly gay City Council member who founded the parade a quarter-century ago; and the late Julio Rivera, a gay man whose murder in 1990 helped spark the LGBT movement in Queens.
