Bus stop changes and more sewer work coming to Maspeth starting this week

Maspeth and Woodside can’t seem to catch a break.

The ongoing Calamus Avenue sewer project that is leaving neighborhoods residents with cracks in their sidewalks, potholes in their streets, lost parking spaces and even property damage (in some cases) will now take away a pair of bus stops on the Q47 line.

The city Department of Design and Construction (DDC) announced that, beginning on Tuesday, Aug. 1 their contractors will be working on 69th Street between 48th and 51st avenues which will directly impact two Q47 bus stops.

From Aug. 1 through the end of September (approximately eight weeks) the northbound Q47 stop at 69th Street and 49th Avenue will be temporarily discontinued. Customers will be directed to use the bus stop on 69th Street and 48th Avenue for the nearest available northbound Q47 service.

Additionally, the southbound Q47 stop at 69th Street and 48th Avenue will be temporarily discontinued, meaning customers will have to use the bus stop on 69th Street and 50th Avenue for the nearest available southbound Q47 service. Notifications will be posted on the affected bus stops to inform customers about the changes.

At the start of the project, the Q47 bus was rerouted from its original Calamus Avenue route to Grand Avenue and 69th Street. The original bus stops will be restored at the conclusion of the construction.

DDC notes that these changes are in addition to the existing temporary Q47 detour. At the conclusion of DDC work, MTA plans to restore all affected bus stops and original routing on the Q47 line, which previously ran along Calamus Avenue.

As if Maspeth doesn’t have enough headaches with the Calamus Avenue sewer project, another part of the neighborhood will be undergoing sewer construction starting July 31.

DDC released a construction bulletin alerting residents of 54th Street between Flushing and Grand avenues that crews will be installing sanitary/storm sewers along the block between Monday, July 31 and Thursday, Aug. 8.

In addition to any 72-hour advisory of any water service interruptions, a 24-hour notification will distributed/posted to any affected area(s), and No Parking signs have been distributed and/or posted 72-hours prior to the temporary elimination of any street and driveway access.

Work hours will begin at 7 a.m. and continue until 3:30 p.m. However, due to unforeseen field and weather conditions, work dates, times and locations may need to be changed.
