City residents can now beginning planning to use the new NYC Ferry service out of Astoria that will debut next week.
The new 45-minute route, which will stop at Astoria, Roosevelt Island, Long Island City, 34th Street and Wall Street, is slated to begin operations on Tuesday, Aug. 29, at 6:30 a.m.
According to the newly released weekday schedule, ferries will run every 25 minutes during morning and evening peak hours and every 50 minutes during off-peak hours. On weekends, ferries will run every 33 minutes. Service will begin at 6:30 a.m. and end around 10 p.m. A fully detailed timetable can now be viewed on the NYC Ferry website.
The Rockaway, South Brooklyn and East River routes, which are already operational, have served over 1.4 million riders to date, according the the NYC Economic Development Corporation (NYCEDC). The final two routes, Lower East Side and Soundview, will launch next year.
Once all routes are fully operational, the ferry system will cover more than 60 miles of waterway at $2.75 per ride — the same price of a subway ride. The cost of a 30-day unlimited ferry pass will also mirror the cost of a 30-day unlimited MetroCard at $121.
Ticketing kiosks will be available at each landing. Ferry riders also have the option to purchase scan-and-go e-tickets through the NYC Ferry app, which also features maps, schedules and real-time notifications and services alerts.
NYC Ferry is also hiring for various jobs, including captains and deckhands. Interested candidates can apply directly through Hornblower’s website.
