The producers of the new SyFy Network television movie “Happy!” will be shooting scenes in Maspeth and Ridgewood on Tuesday, Aug. 22.
According to a notice sent out by the Mayor’s Office of Film, Theatre and Broadcasting, “Happy!” will begin filming scenes inside 56-01 Maspeth Ave. from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., where the character Hailey (played by Bryce Lorenzo) is trapped inside of a cage and eats fruit cake, while in the exam room, Amanda (played by Zabryna Guevara) finds out that she is pregnant.
The filming of these scenes will require parking restrictions along the entire block, north and south sides, of Rust Street between 56th Terrace and 57th Drive.
Filming will then move to Ridgewood where scenes will be shot outside of 65-30 Admiral Ave. between 7 p.m. and midnight. In the scene, Amanda finds a red envelope with her daughter’s hair sticking out.
Production crews have requested — and were granted — permission to use snow, snow blankets, wet down, fans in curb lane, and to cover a Department of Transportation (DOT) street light at the southeast corner of Admiral Avenue and 65th Place.
Parking will be restricted at the following locations:
- The full block, both the north and south sides, of Admiral Avenue between 65th Place and 65th Lane;
- The entire south side of Metropolitan Avenue between 65th Street and 65th Lane;
- One truck length on both the east and west sides of 65th Place between Admiral Avenue and Metropolitan Avenue; and
- One truck length along the north side of Admiral Avenue between 65th Place and 65th Street.
“Happy!” will be an adaptation of the Grant Morrison comic book miniseries of the same name. It stars Christopher Meloni (“Law & Order: SVU,” “True Blood”) as inebriated ex-cop-turned-hitman Nick Sax who receives a second chance at life after meeting an imaginary blue horse named Happy (voiced by Patton Oswalt). Joseph Reitman takes on the role of the story’s villain, Very Bad Santa.
“Happy!” is set to premiere on SyFy in 2018.
