Police are investigating a hit-and-run incident in Jackson Heights earlier this month in which a pedestrian was hit by a vehicle and later died.

At 4 p.m. on Sept. 13, officers from the 115th Precinct responded to a 911 call of a motor vehicle collision involving a pedestrian struck on Northern Boulevard in the vicinity of 85th Street. Upon their arrival, they found 71-year-old Jose Gomez lying in the road with head trauma.

EMS responded to the scene and transported Gomez to Elmhurst Hospital. Gomez died of his injuries on Sept. 17.

An investigation by the NYPD Highway District’s Collision Investigation Squad found that Gomez was standing next to his 2013 Toyota Camry, which was parked legally on the north side of Northern Boulevard east of 85th Street. At this time, an unknown black sedan was traveling eastbound on Northern Boulevard in the center lane, and struck Gomez with the front right side of the vehicle.

After being struck by the unknown vehicle, Gomez was thrown forward, striking his car and an additional parked car before coming to rest in the roadway.

No arrests have been made at this time. The investigation is ongoing.
