Select McDonald’s locations throughout Queens will be celebrating the release of their new Buttermilk Crispy Tenders with a very special limited edition release of their discontinued Szechuan Sauce, thanks to fans of the popular Adult Swim cartoon “Rick and Morty.”
The show’s creators, Justin Roiland and Dan Harmon, made reference to the sauce in the season three premiere of “Rick and Morty,” which caused an uproar from fans pleading with McDonald’s that they bring back the dipping sauce.
McDonald’s heard the fans cries and delivered.
So, for one day only, Saturday, Oct. 7, starting at 2 p.m., four locations in Queens have been listed on the McDonald’s Buttermilk Crispy Tenders website as participating in the special event which will include giving away 1,000 limited-edition, hand numbered, screen-printed posters for all 10 of their dipping sauces.
However, only select locations will have the popular Szechuan Sauce. Those locations are:
- 88-05 Astoria Blvd., in East Elmhurst;
- 37-59 82nd St., in Jackson Heights;
- 138-32 Jamaica Ave., in Jamaica and
- 32-55 31st St., in Long Island City.
According to the website, only the Long Island City location will have the Szechuan Sauce, while the others will be giving away the limited edition posters. However, an employee at the East Elmhurst location said the store will have the sauce; an employee at the Jackson Heights location said their store would not be getting in a shipment of the sauce; and workers at both the Jamaica and Long Island City stores said their locations may be getting the sauce before Oct. 7.
Make sure to call the location before going there to confirm they have the sauce and posters on Oct. 7.
The sauces will only be given to dine-in customers who order a four, six, or 10 piece Buttermilk Crispy Tenders on a first-come first-serve basis with a limit of one collectable giveaway per customer.
McDonald’s originally released the Szechuan dipping sauce in 1998 to coincide with the theatrical release of Disney’s animated film “Mulan.” After the promotion the sauce was discontinued.
This is not the only time Adult Swim will be making an impact on Queens.
On Tuesday, Oct. 3, Adult Swim will be coming to Socrates Park in Long Island City as a stop on their “Adult Swim in the Green” tour where fans will be privy to games, food trucks, trivia with a chance to win exclusive prizes, and exclusive screenings and never-before-seen pilots.
