Octogenarian dies after being struck by a car while crossing an Ozone Park street

An 87-year-old man man who was hit by a car while trying to cross an Ozone Park street has died of his injuries, police announced on Monday.

At 6:13 a.m. on Dec. 5, officers from the 106th Precinct responded to a 911 call regarding a pedestrian struck at Rockaway Boulevard and 108th Street. Upon their arrival, they found 87-year-old Jose Alvarado lying in the street with head and body trauma.

According to information that police obtained, Alvarado was attempting to cross Rockaway Boulevard from the south side to the north side at 108th Street when he was struck by a 2014 Buick Enclave, which was operated by a 55-year-old male, that was traveling westbound on Rockaway Boulevard. The driver remained at the scene following the incident.

EMS responded to the scene and transported Alvarado to Jamaica Hospital, where he died of his injuries on Dec. 16.

The NYPD Highway Collision Investigation Squad is continuing its inquiry.
