Lt. Gov. Hochul lights up LGA McManus Park

Lieutenant Governor Kathy Hochul made a holiday visit to McManus Park which is adjacent to LaGuardia airport. She attended the seasonal tree lighting along with Lysa Scully and several of her staff and RoseMarie Poveromo of the Union Community Association and several other local politicians.

Everyone was treated to the Christmas Caroling sounds from the St. Nicholas School Choir as they sipped hot chocolate and cookies. Although the sounds of the jets overhead tried to overpower the singers, but this was not the case as the sounds of Christmas were listened to by all present. The park is normally quiet strip of land that feels like it is miles away from a major airport. However tonight as the sun set and sky darkened all looked over to the 30 foot tall tree and with a flick of a switch it lit up the park. Everyone clapped.

The Lt. Governor spoke and had kind words for the group and for RoseMarie Poveromo who has headed this organization and makes this annual lighting possible.

Rosemarie in turn had good things to say about the Lt. Governor praising her for attending many local events and supporting the nearby communities.

Lysa Scully praised the choir, and the community. Her words were more somber as she stood next to the 911 Memorial that included a piece of the World Trade Tower.

It was a bitter sweet moment as she spoke about how wonderful this time of year is and of shared joy.
