Firefighters and police officers rushed to a Glendale apartment on Saturday afternoon after two allegedly stoned men locked themselves inside an apartment and set fire to the kitchen, it was reported.

The trouble started at about 2 p.m. on Jan. 13 inside the building located at the corner of Myrtle Avenue and 79th Place.

According to the New York Daily News, brothers Juan Matzar, 33, and Fedrico Matzar, 27, engaged police in a three-hour standoff while barricading themselves inside of their residence. Police had been called to the home by a resident who found them acting strange.

Upon arriving at the location, NBC New York reported, officers encountered smoke on the second floor that emanated from the kitchen. Emergency Services Unit officers broke down the door and subdued the Matzars, and firefighters entered the location and extinguished a fire in the kitchen.

The Matzars were taken into custody and hospitalized for evaluation. Charges against them are pending, the Daily News reported.
