Cops are still looking into Monday’s deadly incident at LaGuardia Airport in which a cargo service employee was struck and killed by a shuttle bus while biking on airport property.
According to Port Authority Police, 36-year-old Steven Morales was riding his bicycle on Runway Drive at about 7:20 p.m. on Feb. 19 when a shuttle bus driver hit him and fled the scene.
Morales worked for Swissport, a company that provides airport ground and cargo handling services. He was taken to Elmhurst Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
State Senator Jose Peralta released a statement after the incident, imploring the driver to come forward.
“I am saddened to hear about the hit-and-run that killed a cyclist as he was riding at LaGuardia Airport, located in the district,” he said. “My condolences go out to the family and friends of the 36-year-old victim, who was an employee at Swissport International, according to news reports. As we work together to improve road and safety measures and reduce traffic-related deaths, I am urging the heartless driver responsible for this fatal hit-and-run to turn him or herself in to the authorities.”
No arrests have been made and the investigation is ongoing.
