A St. Albans woman died after suffering an apparent medical episode and crashing her car in Jamaica on Tuesday.

At 3:01 p.m. on Feb. 13, police responded to a 911 call regarding a vehicle collision near the intersection of Jamaica Avenue and 177th Street. Upon their arrival, officers found Gloria Ingram, 68, of Elmira Avenue, unconscious and unresponsive behind the wheel.

A preliminary investigation found that Ingram may have suffered from a medical episode of some kind. She was driving a 2001 Honda Civic westbound on Jamaica Avenue and when she was approaching the intersection of 178th Street, the vehicle crossed over the center median, veering left and hitting a fire hydrant that was located on the southwest corner of 177th Street.

Paramedics rushed Ingram to Jamaica Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

The investigation is ongoing.
