Detectives seek gunman who shot two individuals on a Jamaica street

A shooter remains at large after he and his accomplice opened fired at two people on a Jamaica street.

According to police, at 3:35 a.m. on June 23, a 27-year-old man and a 20-year-old man were shot multiple times about their bodies by two suspects outside of 95-35 Sutphin Blvd. The 27-year-old was shot to his hip, groin and arm and the 20-year-old was shot in the arm.

At this time, it is not known what the motive behind the shooting was, however, sources familiar with the investigation said that it doesn’t appear to be gang-related.

Paramedics responded to the scene and brought the victims to Jamaica Hospital in stable condition.

The shooters were last seen fleeing the scene southbound on Sutphin Boulevard toward 97th Avenue, police said. Following an investigation, officers arrested Cecilio Matute, 18, in connection to the shooting; he is being held on attempted murder charges.

The second suspect remains at large. Police described him as a 20-year-old Hispanic man with black hair, standing 5 feet, 8 inches and weighing 150 pounds. He was last seen wearing a white T-shirt and gray sweatpants.
