NYPD identifies suspect in connection with Elmhurst stabbing

ELMHURST — The NYPD is searching for a suspect in connection with an assault that occurred this week in Elmhurst.

Police said the suspect, identified as Juan Portoviejo, approached the victim, a 31-year-old female, Tuesday morning as she exited a vehicle in the vicinity of Foley Street and Lamont Avenue. Portoviejo, 33, then began to stab her numerous times about the torso and neck area, according to authorities.

The suspect fled the area after the attack, police said. EMS transported the victim to Elmhurst Hospital, where she was listed in stable condition, according to the NYPD.

Authorities described Portoviejo as Hispanic, approximately 5 feet, 5 inches tall and 150 pounds.
