Nearly 400 Long Island and Rockaways children returned to school this year with brand new backpacks and school supplies donated by PSEG Long Island employees.
Throughout the summer, employees throughout all of the PSEG Long Island offices donated school supplies to the volunteer-based PSEG Long Island Employee Outreach Council’s annual school supply drive.
Thousands of boxes of crayons, pencils and pens, notebooks and binders, rulers, scissors and other supplies were collected and packed by employee volunteers.
“I am continuously amazed by the generosity and thoughtfulness of our employees,” said Nancy Campo, president of PSEG Long Island’s Employee Outreach Council. “Every year we put the call out and every year, they come through with generous donations for our area school kids.”
The back-to-school items were loaded into backpacks and distributed by employee volunteers to a variety of local food pantries, outreach centers and other organizations that help children and families.
These included Family Service League in Bellport, Huntington and Riverhead; Queen of the Most Holy Rosary in Rooselvelt, the Shinnecock Indian Nations in Southampton and Mt. Carmel Baptist Church, located at 3-48 Beach 71st St. in Far Rockaway.
This project was part of PSEG Long Island’s Community Partnership Program.
